Alleged Galaxy S9 Leak Shows Samsung Won’t Copy the iPhone X Just Yet

Samsung’s Galaxy S9 is expected to launch in early 2018, and since we’re only a few months away from this moment, it makes sense for leaks to start making the rounds.

Two photos that are making the rounds like now claim to show the design of the Galaxy S9, thus denying some of the recent speculation on the features that Samsung prepares for its flagship.

First and foremost, while we can’t confirm the legitimacy of these CADs, they do point that the fingerprint sensor won’t be removed, contrary to some people saying that Samsung wanted to copy Apple’s approach with the iPhone X.

It’s believed the Galaxy S9 could indeed feature improved facial recognition with 3D sensing cameras, but the South Korean firm won’t remove the fingerprint sensor. This is possible thanks to the Galaxy lineup featuring sensors placed on the back, as compared to the iPhone where the reader was installed on the front, and given the edge-to-edge screen, a different design was necessary.

Dual-camera system and vertical layout

Samsung, however, will still make some changes to the position of the fingerprint sensor on the back. The reader and the cameras will be placed in a vertical layout a la Galaxy Note 8, and as compared to the existing S8, the future model will integrate a dual-camera setup.

The CAD revealing the screen doesn’t point to many changes, with the same curved edges to be available on the Galaxy S9 as well. The top and bottom bezels also appear to be smaller than on the current model.

Other than that, there’s little change in terms of looks, though some people are wondering why Samsung keeps going for an unusual position for the fingerprint sensor given the criticism received after launching the Galaxy S8.

As for the launch date, it’s believed the Galaxy S9 will go live in the first quarter of the next year, with some analysts projecting the device could see daylight as soon as February.

Obviously, you should take these leaks with a healthy amount of skepticism because there’s a chance they’re fake. Reliable leakster @OnLeaks says they could be inaccurate, meaning that some bigger changes could be made to the device.
