Apple Finally Gives Up, Will Let Third-Party Shops Do More iPhone Repairs

It’s a well-known fact that repairing an iPhone in a third-party shop is quite a challenge, especially because Apple does not provide service centers with its super-advanced tools, but it looks like this is going to change very soon if a pilot program started by the company proves successful.

Apple has recently kicked off a new effort to provide a number of authorities service providers with iPhone calibration systems that are compatible with iPhone 6s and newer.

This basically means that once you bring in an iPhone for repairs to 3D Touch and to the display, you will no longer be required to pay a visit to an Apple Store for calibration (or to wait until the third-party service providers sends and receives the device from Apple) because everything can be performed without Apple’s engineers.

Pilot program already started

A report from Engadget reveals that for the moment, only three different partners have been selected for this pilot program, and one of them is ComputerCare. The other two are unknown at this point.

ComputerCare previously posted information on Apple’s new pilot program on its website, but all details have since been removed, probably because Cupertino wants to keep everything secret.

Why is this important for iPhone users? There are two main reasons. First of all, thanks to Apple lifting some restrictions impacting third-party repair centers, iPhone owners can benefit from the full repair package without having to pay a visit to Apple.

Then, because third parties are in charge of more operations and customers no longer have to come to the Apple Store, the company’s engineers no longer spend time performing repairs that partners would otherwise be able to perform without any risks, as long as the same quality of repairs is maintained.

Apple is yet to provide a statement in this regard, but it makes sense for the company to step into this direction, especially given the recent accusations targeting its strategy of handling iPhone repair services with partners.
