AsusWrt-Merlin Provides New Firmware for ASUS Routers – Version 384.4 Beta 1

AsusWrt-Merlin, well known for its custom software releases, has made available new firmware targeted at some of ASUS’s routers, namely version 384.4 Beta 1, which increases security for config files and adds IPSEC support for RT-AC86U router models.

In addition to that, the current update removes Telnet server (you must use SSH for console-based management), fixes a bug that prevented users from resetting OpenVPN client to default settings, and merges with GPL 384_20379.

Moreover, Merlin’s firmware adds support for RT-AC5300 and RT-AC87U router models, enhances Samba protocol support, disables SNMP on the RT-AC86U units, and implements several other improvements as highlighted in the Release Notes below.

When it comes to compatibility, besides the devices mentioned above, this firmware is suitable or ASUS’ RT-AC3100, RT-AC3200, RT-AC56, RT-AC68, RT-AC86, and RT-AC88 wireless variants.

In terms of installation, save and unzip the appropriate archive for your model, establish a wired connection between the router and your computer, and go to Advanced Settings > Administration > Firmware Upgrade.

Now, click on the “Choose File” button near the “New Firmware File” section, select the newly extracted .trx file, hit “Upload,” and wait for your router to do its job. Bear in mind that interrupting this process can result in device malfunctions.

With this in mind, download AsusWrt-Merlin Router Firmware 384.4 Beta 1, install it on your specific model, and constantly check our website to be aware when a newer version is available for your device.
