BAD TIMING: Terrorists Keep Harshing Obama’s Mellow

There won’t be a wing in his presidential library dedicated to it, but one of Barack Obama’s impeccable skills as commander-in-chief has been his incredibly bad timing when it comes to the issue of terrorism. He has a habit of saying things to downplay the threat of terror attacks just days before such an attack occurs.

Obama has an almost uncanny ability to speak his mind, to try rationalize his policies and positions right before world events turn them upside down and force him back to the greens.

This past Saturday night, while Obama was cracking jokes about ISIS and his birth certificate at an event hosted by the Congressional Black Caucus, a Somali man went on a stabby rampage at a mall in Minnesota, an act for which ISIS took credit.

On top of that, a trash can pipe bomb exploded during a charity marathon for military veterans and families, and a device believed to be a pressure cooker bomb, like the one used in the Boston marathon bombings, incinerated a dumpster in Manhattan, sending 29 people to the hospital.

This was, until this morning, the most recent example of our President making light of terrorism only to have actual terrorists cramp his style by committing acts of terror.

In November of last year, Obama told ABC’s George Stephanopoulos in an interview that ISIS had been contained. “What is true, from the start our goal has been first to contain and we have contained them.” The interview was then aired on that Friday morning, the morning before a coordinated jihadist attack on the famed Bataclan theater in Paris left 130 people dead and was part of larger coordinated attacks around Paris.

Just two weeks later, while giving an interview to CBS news in response to the massacres (plural) in Paris, Obama downplayed the threat of ISIS terror on the homeland. “ISIL is not going to pose an existential threat to us,” he stated. “But the dangers are still there and so we just have to keep things in perspective.”

On that very same afternoon, Syed Rizwan Farook and Tashfeen Malik stormed a medical facility in Southern California, killing 14 people, some of whom were former co-workers of Syed. The married couple also led police on a neighborhood chase which culminated in both their deaths. The couple had pledged allegiance to ISIS in Facebook postings the day of the attack.

That should be three strikes, you’re out for Obama, but to make matters even worse, this morning while Obama was making his final address to the United Nations, with journalists and White House aides live tweeting his comments, social media exploded as a result of the news that Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie were divorcing. The news ensures that no one will pay any attention to Obama’s super important UN speech about why terror threats are overblown (probably).

ISIS has yet to claim responsibility for earth-shattering split, but it’s just another stroke of bad luck for Obama with just under three months left to go in his final term.
