Cop injured in officer-involved shooting in Hawthorne



HAWTHORNE, Calif. (KABC) —

A Hawthorne police officer was injured in an officer-involved shooting Saturday afternoon.

Authorities said the shooting occurred around 5 p.m. near Rosecrans and Inglewood avenues at a Public Storage location. Police had responded to the scene for a disturbance call.

A male suspect was armed with a machete and handgun when an officer arrived, police said. The officer was struck by gunfire, possibly in the leg, and it was a non-life-threatening injury.

The suspect was also shot during the officer-involved shooting, but the injuries were non-life-threatening, authorities said. The officer was taken to Harbor-UCLA Medical Center.

Rosecrans Avenue was shut down in both directions during the investigation.

No further information was immediately released.
