iOS 11.2 Untethered Jailbreak Achieved on iPhone X by Alibaba Researchers
The researchers of Alibaba Pandora Labs have reportedly managed to successfully jailbreak Apple’s iOS 11.2.1 and 11.2 operating systems on the iPhone X.
Song Yang, head of Alibaba Secure Pandora Laboratories, said that his team has jailbroken Apple’s latest iOS 11.2 operating system on the iPhone X, and successfully installs Cydia, an alternative to Apple’s App Store for “jailbroken” devices that lets users install third-party apps and custom themes.
According to the Alibaba researcher, the Pandora Lab jailbreak is “perfect” and cannot be compared with previous jailbreaks released in the last couple of years. However, they do not yet intend to release an iOS 11.2 or iOS 11.1.2 jailbreak tool to the wider public at the moment.
“Although iOS 11.2 fixes some security issues, we confirmed on the day of release that the new version will still be able to jailbreak. Although we soon escaped iOS 11.2 perfectly, we were limited to security research purposes, So it does not provide jailbreak tools,” said Song Yang.
iOS 11 untethered jailbreak achieved thanks to Google
As you know, the iOS 11 untethered jailbreak was achieved thanks to the exploit released by Google’s security researcher Ian Beer last week. Even if Apple tries to patch as many vulnerabilities as possible, flaws and other issues are still discovered by hackers, some allowing jailbreaking.
Those who will want to attempt a jailbreak for their iPhone or iPad devices in the near future should retain from upgrading to the latest iOS 11.2.5 beta, which most probably patches Google’s exploit. However, it would appear that a public jailbreak could soon be released for iOS 11.1.2.
Apple will soon stop signing iOS 11.1.2 builds, so make sure that you download the IPSW firmware and keep it safe for rainy days in case an untethered jailbreak arrives. Although jailbreak popularity has declined in the past years, some are still very excited by the news of a possible untethered jailbreak, especially on the iPhone X.
