Ivanka’s Fashion Brand Rolls Out New Line of Lingerie, Ivanka Takes Leave of Absence

Ivanka Trump announced Wednesday that she will take a leave of absence from her fashion and accessories company, turning over control to Abigail Klem, who will run day-to-day operations while Ivanka sets up shop in DC.

The move isn’t surprising. Ivanka said late last week that she would not be taking any official role in her father’s White House. But she may be helping to take on some of the traditional First Lady duties while her step-mother Melania Trump remains in New York with her half-brother Barron.

Ivanka’s husband, Jared Kushner, will be a senior adviser to the President. The couple and their three children are planning on settling into the Washington DC area in the next few weeks.

But even as Ivanka departs her namesake company, Ivanka Trump, it is looking to expand its offerings. It has applied to extend the Ivanka Trump trademark so that it can cover everything from socks and hosiery, to leggings and undies—even corsets, teddies, lingerie and sleepwear.

The new line extension will roll out in Spring of 2017, in partnership with G-III apparel group, which already helps to produce and supply retailers with Ivanka-branded merchandise.

Even as other Trump-branded goods struggled a bit during the Presidential campaign (at one point, Trump hotels were suffering through a severe booking drought), Ivanka’s brand has maintained prominence. And although Ivanka Trump, like her father, is facing a boycott from disappointed Hillary Clinton voters, most major chains, like Nordstrom, have said they will continue to stock her products.

Ivanka says that, beyond helping to “settle in” her family, she will be taking on an unofficial policy role, in hopes that she can influence decision makers in key areas, “including the education and empowerment of women and girls; leveling the playing field for female entrepreneurs and job creators and unleashing the potential of women in the workplace.”
