Los Angeles Police Department Officer Norma Eisenman confirmed the arrest but declined to provide further details. The shooting occurred Tuesday afternoon in the 1500 block of Lakme Avenue, officials said.

The shooting followed a minor altercation and may have been gang related, authorities added.

The deceased victim, Richard Tafoya, has been identified to KTLA by his brother-in-law Julian Martinez, who said he ran to the shooting scene and discovered Tafoya bleeding to death on the ground.

Another teen is in critical condition after being shot in the back, while another who was shot in the arm is expected to recover, police said. One is also a student at the school and the other is a former student, according to officials.

It is unclear if the suspect is a Banning High School student.
