LA Rams Run Over By Bills 30-19

The Los Angeles Rams lost at the LA Coliseum for the first time in 22 years, as the Buffalo Bills claimed a 30-19 victory on a sunny Sunday in LA.

In the first quarter, the Rams received the ball first and got off to a positive drive that appeared headed for the team’s first touchdown at the LA Coliseum since 1994. However, that honor would need to wait, as the home team settled for an all too familiar sight—Greg Zuerlein converting a field goal.

Buffalo responded with a running attack riding running back LeSean McCoy and focused on the athleticism of quarterback Tyrod Taylor. Facing 3rd and 19 on the Bills’ opening drive, Taylor ran for 22 yards for the first down and put the Rams on notice.

Later in the same drive, Taylor used his scrambling skills to find enough space and time to find Justin Hunter open at the back of the end zone. Thus, the Bills took the early 7-3 lead and did not take long to double their output.

Rams running back Todd Gurley fumbled as time expired in the first quarter, and the Bills made the Rams pay for the error. Assisted by a 53-yard run by McCoy, the Bills scored their second touchdown of the day with a direct snap to Mike Gillislee. McCoy would rush for 111 yards in the first half, alone and finish with 150 rushing yards on the day.

Officially, 83,678 tickets had been distributed for the game, and thankfully for fans of the home team, LA responded by converting on a field goal on its next possessions. Trailing 13-6, the Rams’ defense came up with a big stop and gave LA’s offense the opportunity to keep the game competitive.

Shortly thereafter, Gurley made amends for his earlier fumble by claiming the honor of scoring the LA Rams’ first touchdown at the LA Coliseum since 1994. With the running back’s one-yard scoring run, the Rams’ tied the score at 13-13 with about two minutes remaining in the first half.

“He’s our back of the future, so I guess it’s only appropriate that he got the ball into the end zone there,” Rams coach Jeff Fisher said when reminded that Gurley had broken the 22-year Rams’ touchdown drought in LA.

However, the Bills scored a field goal to take a 16-13 lead just shy of the halftime intermission.

In the second half, the Rams again relied of Zuerlein’s strong leg, as the kicker converted a monstrous 54-yard field goal to level the score about midway through the third quarter. Unfortunately for LA, quarterback Case Keenum made an awful throw that resulted in an interception that was returned 41 yards for a touchdown.

LA trailed 23-16 entering the fourth quarter, and that score stuck until Zuerlein hit a 22-yard field goal with 5:55 remaining in the ball game, a decision fans at the LA Coliseum did not appreciate. LA was on Buffalo’s 4-yard line, and the Rams wanted the team to go for a touchdown on fourth down.

The Rams’ defense, though, came up with a big stop and gave the offense the ball back. After a lackluster offensive series, the Rams faked a punt deep in their own territory. Buffalo sniffed out the attempt and took over on downs. Three plays later, the Bills scored and took a convincing 30-19 lead that sent the majority of the fans heading for the exits.
