Mariah Carey Recording New Album Full Of ‘Big Heartbreak Ballads’ After James Packer Split

Mariah Carey is looking to spin straw into gold. Or at least sadness into some majorly good breakup ballads. The singer is going through a tough time after her split from fiancé James Packer, and making music seems to be the best way to get through it. Get the full scoop on how Mariah plans to record a new album based on her heartbreak, right here.

Mariah Carey, 46, is taking her heartbreak and rolling with it. Since James Packer, 49, her billionaire fiancé, broke off their engagement back in October, Mariah has been pouring her emotions over the split into some new music. “[Mariah] has been putting all her pain into a new album,” a source told Us Weekly. “She wants it to have the big heartbreak ballads she’s famous for.” Well, heartbreaking ballads are the “We Belong Together” singer’s bread and butter.

To get the creative juices flowing, Mariah has teamed up with producer Jermaine Dupri. “They want to re-create that vibe,” the insider said of the producer and Mariah’s teamwork on her epic 2005 album, The Emancipation of Mimi. “She wants to duplicate her old success,” the insider revealed to Us.

Of course, Mariah will have plenty of material to spin into some great new smash hits after the way she and James broke up. The pair allegedly started duking it out while planning their wedding on his yacht in Greece. “It was like Jekyll and Hyde. Suddenly [James’] like, ‘I don’t think I can do this,’” the source told Us. Ouch!
