Microsoft Outs Revamped Skype App for macOS with Cloud Sync and Custom Themes
Microsoft on Monday released an all-new Skype version for Apple’s macOS operating system, showcasing the new features and improvements it implemented in its powerful VoIP application.
Promising to make you more productive and to improve your workflow, the new Skype for desktop (available for both macOS and Windows platforms) is adding cloud support so you can easily sync all the photos, files, and videos you’ve shared with your friends across multiple devices, support for custom themes, and chat list.
“You’re on your phone a lot—but you’re probably on the “big screen” quite a bit, too. Starting today, you can use the same Skype across all your devices. The new desktop version of Skype lets you connect naturally, with tools and features that can transform everyday conversations,” reads today’s announcement.
Microsoft recently updated the mobile version of Skype for iOS bringing support for automatic accept of following requests, various messaging enhancements, as well as some performance and reliability improvements. Getting back to the new Skype for desktop release, it also introduces a notification panel and support for add-ins.
While add-ins are currently available only to Skype Insiders, the rest of the users can enjoy other cool new features like chat media gallery to find shared content in the chat gallery faster than ever, and catch up with messages, group conversations, reactions, or mentions they missed using the new notification panel.
Reactions, mentions, bots, and more
Also new in the latest Skype for desktop release is support for @mentions, so you can easily get someone’s attention in a group chat with hundreds or thousands of users, or if you just want to leave an offline message to one of your contacts and make sure he/she won’t miss it, as well as support for reactions.
Reactions let you express your feelings in messages during text conversations or video calls. Furthermore, Skype now comes built-in with bots that promise to help you plan your day or stay up-to-date with what’s going on. Lastly, Microsoft brought back status updates to Skype for desktop, which you can download for macOS or Windows right now.
