Concord police are investigating after a man dressed as a clown attempted to kidnap a 1-year-old girl outside of a Denny’s on Wednesday afternoon.

The man, dressed in clown costume with a blue wig, approached a mother and her daughter outside of a Denny’s on Willow Pass Road around 1 p.m., according to police.

He began talking with the mother before reaching out and grabbing the 1-year-old’s hand, the mom told police.

The man then pulled on the child’s arm before the mother kicked him repeatedly in the shin. He fled on foot after the mother fought back, police said.

Officers performed a sweep of the area but were unable to find the man.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Concord Police Department Investigations Bureau at 925-671-3030.
