Report: San Bernardino Terrorists May Have Been ‘Triggered’ by Christmas Tree

Syed Farook and Tashfeen Malik, the radicalized couple who went on a deadly shooting rampage in San Bernardino, Calif., in December 2015, may have been “triggered” by a Christmas tree and other holiday decorations at a training session Syed was forced to attend, ABC News reports.

According to the report, FBI investigators have uncovered emails reveal that Malik was upset about her husband being forced to attend a training session at a venue where Christmas decorations were present.

Prior to committing the attack, Farook had posed for a photo with colleagues in front of a Christmas tree in a conference room at the Inland Regional Center in San Bernardino, where he would later return with his wife and go on a shooting rampage that killed 14 people and seriously wounded 22 others.

“She had essentially made the statement in an online account that she didn’t think that a Muslim should have to participate in a non-Muslim holiday or event,” San Bernardino police chief Jarrod Burguan told ABC News.

Burgeon said this online exchange is one of the “very, very few pieces of potential evidence that we have that we can truly point to and say, ‘That probably is a motive in this case.’”

FBI investigators have previously said that the Muslim couple “were radicalized and have been for quite some time” before committing the attack. The couple also possessed a considerable amount bomb-making material in their home, and had recently visited a shooting range for target practice.

Farook and his wife fled the scene Police say they may have finally discovered a motive.of the attack in their car, and were killed in a shootout with police hours later.
