The pursuit began about 4:06 a.m. near the intersection of Del Mar Avenue and Valley Boulevard, said Officer Jim Drabos with the San Gabriel Police Department.
An officer had attempted to pull a vehicle over, but the driver sped off instead, Drabos said.
The brief pursuit came to an end near West Saxon Avenue and Crone Street, Drabos said.
Shots were fired at the end of the pursuit, Drabos said, but it was unclear if any officers were involved in the shooting.
The driver, described as a 5 foot 6 inch tall Hispanic man with a shaved head, then fled the area on foot and was being sought by police.
The California Highway Patrol closed some nearby freeway on and off ramps due to the police activity.
No officers were injured in the incident, Drabos said.
