Son holds mother hostage at gunpoint in Pico Rivera, officials say

PICO RIVERA, Calif. (KABC) —

A man was holding his mother hostage at gunpoint in Pico Rivera on Sunday, according to authorities.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said they responded to a call for an assault with a deadly weapon in the 8800 block of Dalewood Avenue near Claymore Street at about noon.

Deputies said the incident started as a dispute between a mother and her son. Authorities stated the man could have multiple guns on him.

The man barricaded himself inside the home and would not allow his mother to leave, according to officials.

The sheriff’s department’s SWAT team responded to the scene. Negotiators were also at the scene attempting to make contact with the man.

Nearby homes were evacuated by deputies as a precaution. Authorities warned residents to avoid the area because the man was considered armed and dangerous.
