Student Arrested for Planning to Shoot Students, Staff

A high school student was arrested Wednesday evening in the Inland Empire after a hit list and detailed plan to carry out “criminal threats” was discovered, sheriff’s officials said.

The 14-year-old student – who was not identified – was arrested for planning to shoot 33 students and staff at Encore High School in Hesperia.

A parent told deputies that the student allegedly made a threat on social media. Detectives found a detailed plan while searching the teen’s home.

“There was a detailed plan to carry out these threats,” said San Bernardino Sheriff John McMahon.

The student also had access to firearms as well as information about explosives, McMahon added.

Officials said they are confident that the student was acting alone and they are not seeking additional suspects.

The suspect’s parents kept him home this week and are cooperating with deputies, officials said.

The sheriff’s department held a press conference to speak to concerned parents on Wednesday evening.

“It’s devastating because you send your kid thinking my kid is going to survive the day,” parent Alma Seaman said. “You never think you’re not going to see your kid again.”

The students and teachers on the list have been notified.
