Supposed iPhone 8 Case Shows Vertical Dual-Lens Setup, no Touch ID on the Back

Apple’s upcoming iPhone 8 is certainly one of the most anticipated smartphones of this year and information about the new device continues to surface online. An alleged image purporting the smartphone’s back case has recently surfaced.

The image was posted by Twitter user @kksneakleaks and it shows the back panel in all of its glory, revealing the vertical dual-camera setup on the back, but there’s no trace of the Touch ID. The picture does seem to corroborate details from the recently leaked schematics, which showed a wireless charging module on the back of the iPhone 8, but no Touch ID.

Apple is said to be having some issues with integrating the Touch ID under the display and some analysts previously believed that the fingerprint sensing module could be placed on the back of the phone.

A cutout for a side power button is visible in the image

Other visible features include a large power button and no headphone jack. The vertical dual-camera setup appears to be located at the top side of the back panel, specifically in the top-left corner, thus confirming previous reports.

Take the information with a grain of salt, Apple is known to be working on multiple prototypes for the iPhone 8 and it’s a bit too early for manufacturers to start production of clear cases for the upcoming phone. Still, there’s also a chance that the image is legit and that the case is for an actual iPhone 8.

iPhone 8 is expected to come with a large edge-to-edge OLED display and no home button in the front, which is why Touch ID will be relocated. Moreover, wireless charging is said to be integrated into the new phone, together with a 3D facial camera and AR features. iPhone 8 will run the latest A11 chipset and will be announced this fall, together with iPhone 7s and iPhone 7s Plus.
