Suspect in custody after stabbing in Panorama City, standoff in Glendale

GLENDALE, Calif. (KABC) —

Two women and two children were stabbed in Panorama City on Sunday, and their attacker, an ex-boyfriend of one of the victims, was arrested following a chase and standoff with authorities, Los Angeles police said.

The stabbing was reported at about 1:09 p.m. at an apartment building in the 8800 block of Tobias Avenue, prompting a response from police and firefighter-paramedics.

Police said the suspect went to his ex-girlfriend’s apartment and got into an argument with her before he stabbed the woman in the back and stabbed her sister. Both were in critical but stable condition.

A 3-month-old baby girl and a 3-year-old girl were also injured, according to authorities from the LAPD. Police said the infant suffered a cut to the leg and was expected to be OK. The injuries of the 3-year-old were not known.

Authorities have had conflicting reports on victims and their injuries, but it was confirmed Sunday night the injured were two women and the two children.

The suspect, who was identified by his brother-in-law as George Gomez, was hold up for several hours at a construction site on Chevy Chase Drive in Glendale after leading police on a 30-minute chase that started in the Mission Hills area.

Police said Gomez took off running after the pursuit ended in a crash, and he climbed on a roof of a home at the construction site.

Crisis negotiators were at the scene talking with Gomez, who police said was holding an object in his hand.

Gomez’s mother, who went to the scene of the standoff in hopes of a peaceful resolution, said her son had been depressed and hadn’t been eating.

Gomez was later taken into custody at about 8 p.m. after surrendering to police.
