This Android “iPhone X” Has a Notch, a Bezel-Less Screen, and “Touch ID”

Almost every time Apple makes a bigger change to the iPhone, no matter how controversial it is, it’s all just a matter of time until other phone makers embrace it as well.

It happened with the removal of the headphone jack, and it’s now happening with the notch too, with Chinese companies apparently the first to do it in order to benefit from the success of the iPhone X.

China-based Leagoo is working on a device called Leagoo S9, which although at first glance it sounds like it is a clone of the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S9, it is actually an iPhone X copycat.

A quick look at the device shows the Leagoo S9 will come with an iPhone X-like notch and a bezel-less screen, as well as with a vertically-mounted dual-camera system on the back. At first glance, the knockoff looks really good, though don’t expect the same build quality and premium materials as on the iPhone X to be used on the Chinese model as well.

6GB RAM and 128GB storage, more than base iPhone X

Most often, Chinese companies launch clones of more popular phones at incredibly low prices, and this will be the case of the Leagoo S9 too. The device will cost less than $300, which is substantially cheaper than the $999 price tag you need to pay for the base iPhone X.

Obviously, the hardware is where the bigger difference is being made. While the Chinese phone will come with a fingerprint sensor on the back, it’ll be powered by a MediaTek P40 chip paired with 6GB RAM and 128GB storage. A 5.85-inch AMOLED screen will also be used and Android will be the operating system of choice.

Truth be told, the hardware isn’t really bad for a mid-range phone, but despite the similarities with the iPhone X, it’s going to be a huge difference in almost every regard.

There’s still no word as to when the Leagoo S9 will launch officially, but since the design is ready, it should go live in just a few months.

A fingerprint sensor on the back will also be offered
