This Lamborghini Countach Is One Of The Most Important Cars In The US
While Burt Reynolds drove a Dodge ambulance throughout the film, it was the 1979 Countach LP 400 S that won the cross-country race in the movie. It also featured prominently in the film’s opening scene speeding across the Las Vegas desert with police in hot pursuit. For its role in the film, the Countach was modified with a front spoiler, twin spotlights, three antennas, and 12 exhaust pipes.
After filming wrapped up, the Countach was bought by Ron Rice, founder of the sunscreen brand Hawaiian Tropic famous for its motorsport sponsorships. Rice was besotted with the Countach as soon as he saw it and kept it until 2004. It was then sold to Jeff Ippoliti, a Florida-based attorney and hardcore Lamborghini fan who still owns it today.
