Two Men Arrested, Charged With Murder After Fatal Attack Outside Hollywood Nightclub

Two men were charged with murder on Tuesday in connection with a beating that left a man dead outside of a Hollywood nightclub.

Dietrich Canterberry, 34, and Cordell Shields, 35, were each charged with one count of murder. Shields also faces one count each of assault by means of force likely to produce great bodily injury and battery.

The two men got involved in a dispute around 2:30 a.m. on Oct. 30 after a group of women began arguing outside of a nightclub near Hollywood Boulevard and Cahuenga Boulevard.

Shields allegedly punched a woman, Laporscha Marks, in the face as she tried to get into a car, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office.

Marks’ brother, Devion Jelkes, was running towards his sister when he was allegedly attacked by Shields and Canterberry, prosecutors said.

Police later found Jelkes unconscious and suffering from blunt force trauma, according to a press release. The two men allegedly punched and kicked him repeatedly until he died, officials said.

Police also told KTLA Jelkes fell and hit his head on the curb during the attack. He was transported to a nearby hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

Shields faces 26 years to life in state prison and Canterberry faces a possible 25-to-life- prison term if convicted.
