Waterfall Braid Wrapped Flower

Today’s tutorial is a hairstyle I recently wore and posted on Instagram. Many of you asked for a tutorial so I thought it’d be fun to share that today. I am so in love with this hairstyle and love how casual it looks from the front. My favorite hairstyles are ones that don’t look too fussy from the front but then wow! when you see it from the back. Wear it to work during the week or for a special event coming up, there’s no doubt you’ll get plenty of compliments!

I recently attended a hair class taught by Hair and Makeup by Steph and learned so many new techniques! She’s someone I’ve been following for a long time and her work is always so beautiful. This was the second class I’ve taken from her, the first way back in 2014, and it was so fun to watch and see how she creates some of her stunning hairstyles. I always feel so inspired after learning new hair methods so hopefully I can put together some tutorials that feature a little bit of her influence. If you ever get the chance to attend one of her classes I highly recommend it!

Waterfall Braid Wrapped Flower Supplies:

  • Rattail comb
  • Hair sectioning clip
  • Bobby pins
  • Clear elastic band
  • Medium-hold hairspray

Waterfall Braid Wrapped Flower Instructions:

  • Step 1 / Begin by parting the hair on the right side.
  • Step 2 / Then divide out any hair to frame the face and clip this out of the way.
  • Step 3 / Pick up a section on the heavy side of the part for the braid and divide it into three smaller sections.
  • Step 4 / Cross the right strand over the middle strand and then cross the left strand over the middle.
  • Step 5 / Then cross the right strand over the middle and pick up a new section crossing it over and into the middle strand.
  • Step 6 / Drop down the left strand, pick up a new section from underneath it and cross it over and into the middle strand.
  • Step 7 / Then divide the left strand in half and cross half over and into the braid as well.
  • Step 8 / Repeat those steps continuing the braid until it reaches around the back of the head and hair has been brought in from the right side of the head.
  • Step 9 / Now stop adding new sections into the braid and just continue the braid down to the ends before sliding a bobby pin over the bottom.
  • Step 10 / Go back over the braid and gently pull on the edges of the braid but only on the right side. This will make the petals of the flower easier to see.
  • Step 11 / Then tie the bottom of the braid with a clear elastic band.
  • Step 12 / Roll the braid upwards onto itself, creating a spiral and place it where the waterfall braid ends.
  • Step 13 / Tuck the ends of the braid into the center of the flower.
  • Step 14 / Weave bobby pins through the flower starting under the outer edges until it feels secured in place.
  • Step 15 / Gently pull on the outer edges of the flower to help accentuate the petals of the flower.
  • Step 16 / Set everything in place with a medium-hold hairspray.
